Experience Days

Our Experience Day will take you on a journey with many different raptors and owls. You will venture out with some precision predators and some real characters! With the emphasis on interaction, you will be flying the birds yourself where possible.

The Lake District has a diverse terrain, which is perfect for birds of prey. They are specialists, and to perform at their best they need their natural environment. This is not an arena flying demonstration, but rather an adventure through the countryside, appreciating life through the eyes of a bird of prey. Sometimes we even travel a very short distance to another environment entirely, to match the birds natural flying style.

Journeying with the bird in this way enables you to observe natural wild behavior,. Understand the adaptations required for different types of flight, how this relates to it's environment, and the conservation issues facing each species. Our Experience Days provide a fascinating insight into the life and evolutionary adaptations of birds of prey.

You will see how and why the relationship between a bird of prey and his falconer is possible. We will show you how to do some basic techniques, including how to pick up a falcon safely and tie a falconry knot one handed!

Any of the following variety of birds may be included in your Experience Day, Marsh Harrier, Harris Hawk, Ferruginous Hawk, Striated Caracara, Lanner Falcon, Gyr Falcon, European Eagle Owl and a Milky Eagle Owl.

Experience Days are available in full or half days. More variety of birds and more activities are included on full days due to the additional time available.

Under 14 yrs to be accompanied by an adult.
